Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park
When most people think of Texas, they think of cowboys, horses, and wide-brimmed hats, not the tropics. The Tropical Trail is proof, however, that there is a little bit of everything in this state. At the southernmost tip of Texas, encompassing Brownsville, Laredo, Corpus Christi, and Port Aransas, this 20-county area is a region of cultural diversity and the blending of Hispanic and Anglo traditions and customs. With over 100 years of Spanish and Mexican occupation, this area truly reflects that history through its architecture as well as the music, food, and cultural celebrations of its current residents.
