No visit to Ambergris Caye is complete without an afternoon at one of the island’s best bars — Palapa Bar. Situated at the end of a dock surrounded by turquoise waters and cool breezes, Palapa Bar is the spot to hang with a great mix of locals, travelers, and some of the coolest bartenders on the island.
On a warm day, hit the inner tubes by the dock where you can even have cold buckets of Belize’s Belikin beers lowered down to you. Afterwards, head up the stairs and check out Palapa Bar’s menu of eats. Recommendations include the award-winning sausage dip, pulled pork sandwich, and the ‘1/2 pound kick-ass humongous burger.’
Not a beer fan? Palapa Bar has you covered with a number of standard cocktails and some fun island inspired creations like Scotty’s Palapa Punch, featuring three different types of rum, triple sec, mango, pineapple, and a squeeze of lime. Check for seasonal offerings like the Pitahaya margarita and more.
Palapa Bar is 1.5 miles north of town and easily reached by golf cart, taxi, bicycle or water taxi, which drops you right off at the dock.
