Pairi Daiza Zoo and Botanical Garden

A former Cistercian Abbey doesn’t seem a likely place to find elephants, giraffes and cheetahs, but that’s exactly where you’ll find Pairi Daiza Zoo and Botanical Garden. This 55-hectare (140-acre) park is one of Wallonia‘s top attractions and it’s little wonder. The zoo is divided into different regions from around the globe, including: China, Africa, Indonesia and Australia, among others. There are plans for further expansion, which are on-going for at least another 5 years. More than just animals, each area of the zoo features architecture, gardens, art, food and even music from the given region. Animal enclosures are designed to give visitors an up-close and personal experience; whether it’s being at eye-level with a hungry giraffe or watching fruit bats fly free in the monastery’s former crypt. This park is a must visit destination for animal and garden lovers and a great way to explore the world without leaving Belgium.
