Around 30 miles east of Colorado Springs, Colorado is a place you would never expect to find out in the middle of the prairie lands. As you drive along through flat lands, tumbleweeds, and a horizon as far as the eye can see, you suddenly see a sign for Paint Mines Interpretive Park. Depending on the day you've chosen for your adventure, you may be the only car in the parking lot. You throw on your hiking boots and start down the path. And before you know it, you are transformed into another world. The park is rich in plant and animal life. Yet all that will be forgotten as you turn into the clay formations, chasms, spires, overhangs and walls. Color stretches as far as the eye can see. And its easy to see the trails made by water and ice as you climb in and out of the various paths and trails. Whether you stay for an hour or an afternoon, you will surely find the inspiration you need as you explore this hidden jewel.
