Wandering around Pai in Thailand I found it best not to plan out a place to stay ahead of time. Stopping inn to inn searching for an open room I found a little hut with an amazing view and a mattress on the floor with a couple of hammocks that I fell in love with for $6/night. To start each evening the owner of the place would have happy hour at 5 with some home brewed moonshine that was actually amazing. She told stories about her last inn being swept away in a flood but with the most amazing smile and sunny disposition, counting the blessings of all the friends and travelers that had saved her from being swept away, that I really understood the heart of the people in Pai and the love of life that makes the place so special.
The streets transform into an outdoor market with fabulous street food at night, and at the bars my husband and I would cozy up next to a fire while people took turns playing the guitar, singing, and telling stories. I cancelled a number of other places I was supposed to visit just to breathe in the beauty of Pai a little more. I really can't wait to find myself there again. It is a little slice of heaven on earth.
