Pack Creek Wilderness
Pack Creek Bear Observation Trail
Off the PathMy wife and I were looking for something off the beaten path to celebrate our 34th anniversary.I remembered fishing many times on Admiralty back in the 80's and 90's and that they called it
"Killisnoo" in Tlingit which means Fortress Of the Bears .I started researching and settled on http://packcreekoutfitters.com/ as my outfitter.
We flew to Juneau and then took a float plane to a small island about a mile long about a 2 mile kayak float from Pack Creek ,our outfitter had Kayaks stashed on the island and we set up rustic camp. The outfitter can provide any thing you need we combined our own camping equipment with some of his so we didn't have to carry it on the plane
We spent 3 days and 2 nights watching the bears play on the beach we probably saw 25 different bears in two different locations one about 5 miles kayak down the bay to the south and the before mentioned Pack Creek location. The weather was about the best Southeast Alaska has had all summer(You can expect rain, but we didn't see a drop)
