Ottley's Plantation Inn
Ottley’s Plantation Inn isn’t on the beach—a complimentary shuttle takes guests to Basseterre and its neighboring beaches—but you’ll hardly notice. Instead, the resort occupies an 18th-century sugar plantation, spread over 35 lush acres at the base of Mount Liamuiga. Its 23 rooms are decorated in typical Caribbean fashion, with colonial-style mahogany furnishings, floral bedding, and gingerbread-trimmed balconies overlooking the sea. Splurge on a supreme suite and you’ll also enjoy a private plunge pool, although the resort’s 65-foot swimming pool is equally enticing. The Mango Orchard Spa makes use of the property’s bounty, as does the on-site restaurant, where guests dine on coconut shrimp in the original stone plantation house.

Ottley’s Plantation Inn
Ottley’s embodies exactly what makes St. Kitts different from some other island destinations. The 23-room property is located on a “ghut” (the local term for a ravine) in a grand plantation that dates from the eighteenth century and welcomes guests with intimate, old school hospitality. Choose from kicking back in a lounge chair by the pool—located within the walls of the property’s old sugar factory, playing a game on the croquet lawn, or stroll through the rainforest and try to spot the playful green vervet monkeys. At the end of the day, you can dine on upscale Caribbean fare that blends flavors from around the world at the elegant, open-air Royal Palm restaurant. The excellent food has to compete for your attention with the views of the manicured grounds leading down to the blue sea.
