Fascinating underground tour
This 45-minute tour will take you to an otherworldly, subterranean world where the Etruscans built caverns and tunnels in the cliffs of the hillside town of Orvieto 600 years before Christ. We learned of their medieval oil process production and that the small niches carved in the walls (see photo) were for catching pigeons -- their main food staple and now a popular, local culinary dish.
