The Gems of Vicenza: Teatro Olimpico & La RotondaI found that I preferred the small towns of Italy as opposed to the vast city of Rome. Vicenza was no exception. This charming town offers a plethora of options for history, art, and architecture lovers.
The Teatro Olimpico: Designed by Andrea Palladio the building and the Renaissance theatre and orchestra stage was designed by Vicenzo Scamozzi. For every statue of a man represents someone who help find the budiling. However, some investors did not honour their payments but still received a statue within the building. The stage is still used for the jazz season in May and opera performances.
La Rotonda: A villa also designed by Andrea Palladio is a 20-30 minute walk that is worth taking not only for the destination but for the sights of the city and countryside. You will see other villas from the sixteenth century with living residences and a wedding in my case. At the villa you'll be able to tour life as it was with a kitchen with a large wood fireplace and other areas of the house that allow for a trip back in time.
