As the ship steams north from Seattle, start scanning for the Southern Resident killer whale pods. These rare orcas don’t migrate—and eat only fish (no mammals). Overharvested for marine parks in the '60s and '70s, this endangered subspecies numbers just 84 animals now, including Lolita (originally Tokitae), who is still in captivity at the Miami Seaquarium. But there's good news: After 2.5 years with no offspring, the group has enjoyed a nine-calf baby boom between December 2014 and January 2016!
