If you’re on a ship that ports in Cobh, take the time and eight euro to venture into Cork. It’s a short 15 minute train ride and the bustling pub town of Cork is well worth the exploration. My day was made memorable by stumbling into Cork’s “Traditional English Market.” The smell of fresh food is enough to make any foodie go cross-eyed. Pick up some locally made jams and mustards for family and friends. Then head over to the a cheese and meat counter lining the back of the market—“On the Pig’s Back.” Compile yourself a picnic of earthy cheeses and salty prosciutto. The French style deli is run by two dainty french women, who are eager to offer you samples or slice you portions perfect for one or two. Choose a couple cheeses, meats, and baguettes at random, then find a nearest park bench and people watch while enjoying your impromptu charcuterie.
