How do you photograph the sweet strains of piano and guitar that float around you or the sense of calm that envelopes you when you gaze across the still water of the pool and out to the sea? How do you put into words the everything-is-right-with-the-world feeling that lifts your spirit and settles your soul?
I love the Omni. I live nearby and come often to sit at the swim-up bar and enjoy a drink or savor the pumpkin flower cream soup at the restaurant that overlooks a thousand shades of blue. I've stayed in the immaculate rooms where the pillows are like clouds and fresh roses and wine greet you when you check in—but mostly, I come here for the peace. The sound of waves gently lapping the shore and the soft breeze that touches everything with its salty fingers revives me.
One night in a double occupancy room: about $250 USD. Service: Phenomenal! There are three restaurants on site, and you can order anything anywhere you wish. An enormous copal tree is growing right through the lobby. Overall sense of peace: Priceless.
Alliteration and obvious sun-worshiping opportunities aside, this is Omni is, by far, one of the best places on earth to star-gaze in the lap of luxury; the safe and somewhat sleepy gated community of Puero Aventuras, inside which the Omni is situated, even insists that you turn off your vehicle lights when driving within the community gates after 9 PM, so as not to add to the light pollution which may otherwise inhibit this stellar view. Rooms at this Omni resort are nothing short of perfection, featuring private hot tubs, individual hammocks, and an innovative "magic box" for optimal room-service-delivery convenience (when you simply cannot pry yourself from your hammock to answer the knock at your door). Close enough to Playa del Carmen for those who seek bustling nightlife, but far enough away for those who seek this specific sort of solace, I simply cannot express how many surprises can be discovered in the hidden gem that is Puerto Aventuras.
