Summer Fun at the Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate
Summer Fun at the Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate
My husband and I recently spent a fun weekend at the Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate located just a stones throw down Interstate 4 from Disney World. We got a good taste of what's in store for the summer at the resort.

Kicking off on Memorial Day weekend, the resort is hosting "102 Days of Summer Fun" offering everything from fun in new wave pool to golf clinics, cooking classes and special food events, summer cocktails by the pool and making s'mores around the fire pit at sunset, and family twilight golf. Oh...and I forgot, fishing for large mouth bass, dive-in movies, cake decorating classes, and surrey bike rentals. The resort will also host Firework Spectaculars a number of Saturdays during the summer and on July 4th.

I had the opportunity to take a beginning golf class at the Omni Leadbetter Golf Clinic. The instructor was patient and very helpful. I managed to resurrect a bit of golf ability (pretty good for me after a hiatus of 30 years from golf.) Golf clinics are available to guests at all levels of ability.

I also had a massage at the Mokara Spa which was perfectly relaxing. During the summer, the Spa will be offering special "teen hours" from 1 to 3 pm where teen pedicures, manicures, facials come with a scoop of Gelato from the Broadway Deli! Hey...I want in on that fun!

The Omni Orlando Resort has a wide range of excellent restaurants. We ate at four of them. A special favorite of ours was the pan-Asian Zen Sushi Bar and restaurant. This summer guest can learn how to make authentic dim sum and appetizers at the "Dim Sum with Chef Tang" event daily from 2 to 3 at the Zen Sushi Bar.

There is a 18-hole "put-put" golf course next to the pool area which is fun for couples and families. My husband and I enjoyed a round between floating on the Lazy River and sitting in the shade of a cabana next to the Quiet Pool. This summer there will also be "family twilight golf" on the National course (the real course not the put-put) starting at 3pm. Rates for adults will be $30 and only $5 for children 15 years and under.

One of our favorite things about the Omni Orlando Resort was starting off the morning with the breakfast buffet at Trevi's restaurant. Guests can also order off the menu, but you should treat yourself at least once to the big buffet. Some of our favorites were the omelets to order, shrimp and grits, the local honey bar, pastries, and fresh fruit and cheeses.

There is so much summer fun to be had at the Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate that it would be really easy to never leave once you checked in. But it is also very close to Disney World giving a family even more fun opportunities to choose from. What's a family to do? STAY LONGER! Or come back, which is what we plan to do .As if the summer fun offerings weren't enough, as Florida residents, there are special rate packets to lure us up from the St Pete area.

Can't wait to go back.
