A Piece of HistoryI've been fascinated with the Olympics since I watched the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Barcelona Summer Games and saw that archer and his flaming arrow light the Olympic flame. Prior to my trip to Europe, I'd never been to an Olympic stadium.
When I went to Germany in May 2011, I got to see two Olympic stadiums. The first was in Munich, site of the 1972 Summer Games. Then I went to Berlin, and made my way to the Olympiastadion, site of the 1936 Summer Games.
As my friend and I approached the stadium, we were both struck in awe by how imposing the stadium was. Everything from the stadium itself, to the suspended Olympic rings, even the weather with dark clouds rolling in, it was all very epic in feel. Add to the fact that this was all done in the Nazi era, and it felt like being immersed in a piece of history.
