Summer is considered to be one of the best times of the year. We always await holidays fulfilled with sea views, traveling, exploring new countries, reading good books and much more. Well, all those dreams can crush in one moment, when you understand you have to study in Summer. How can you manage not to worry and keep completing your assignments, when everybody else is celebrating life and having fun? Well, there are a couple of tricks. Let me share them with you without further ado.

1. Define, when you are free.

For everything, there is a season, and a time for very purpose under heaven,” as it is said in Bible. So think of the time, when your studies are finished, calculate precisely when it will happen. This understanding will help you to know two things: your suffering won’t be everlasting, and you can plan something spectacular for your vacation from now on.

2. Make a plan

This is the best thing you can do to avoid procrastination. So, a plan should be not an abstract thought, but a precise arrangement of each day, week and month. Set up your goals, define studying hours, extra activities, coffee-breaks, doing groceries, etc. Include everything you do in a day, calculate the time for each activity. Free time you have a day should not take more than 40% and should not be taken all at once. Split that 40 % of the time through the whole day, include 15-20 minutes breaks between 1,5 hours of studying. Do not put two studying sessions back to back. You won’t be able to concentrate properly, and this would lead to losing time only. Also, do not make the breaks too long, for they can result in laziness and delays.

3. Put difficult things first

The famous quotation of Mark Twain says “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning, and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” Give the hardest tasks the very top priority. Once you complete them, nothing bad can possibly happen. This feeling of relief will motivate you to finish everything else from the list.

4. Write essays

The best way to memorize the material you are working on is to write an essay on it. And I don’t mean taking notes while reading (which are of the same importance), but your reflections on the material written down on several pages, which would create a good completed text. Researchers say, that expressing your thoughts in a written form helps to memorize the material twice better, then fair reading and taking notes. So don’t think of it like of a time loss. This small trick actually will speed up the learning process.

5. Find yourself a studying partner

It is important. This person should not be your best friend, for instead of studying you are risking to spend most of the time chatting, having fun and forgetting about your submissions. Think of somebody, who is put in the same situation you are in. It may be your classmate or someone you took a course with. When you know there is somebody else studying in Summer as you do, it helps a lot psychologically. Also, both of you can help each other with proofreadings, checking material and giving advice. No need to say how much this can ease the process of studying.

6. Take care of your health

Obviously, you should do this not only when you have to study in Summer, but constantly. Still, it is highly important you won’t forget this point when you are busy with completing your assignments. Plan yourself any physical activity every day in the morning and while taking short breaks between studying sessions. This will increase oxygen in the blood and therefore help you to learn faster and feel yourself better. Do not forget to have at least 7-8 hours of sleep and eat well. Those simple everyday things are essential for your everyday well-being and, thus, your success in studying.

Bottom Line

Studying in Summer might be unpleasant, but it is not a curse. Plan your time effectively, involve somebody to ‘suffer’ together, motivate yourself with small awards and do not forget to take breaks from time to time. Once completing all of your assignments you definitely will feel you deserved your vacation. This will add a lot of value to it, trust me.
