Old Providence McBean Lagoon

This lagoon on the northeast coast of Providencia is one of Colombia’s few national parks in the Caribbean (the country also has coastline on the Pacific Ocean). The park’s full name is Old Providence McBean Lagoon National Natural Park, and while it may be small compared to parks on the mainland—less than 10 square kilometers (four square miles)—it’s important for its biodiversity. Tropical dry forest, mangroves and marine grasses grow here, and snorkelers and divers come to explore its coral reef. If you visit, be sure to climb Iron Wood Hill for views of the mangroves and the lagoon.
