Old bridge Mostar
View from the minaret of 16 century mosque
Mostar, a city adorned with minarets, domes and spires still recovering from a brutal past not so old to remember. Visit the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque and climb the old narrow minaret to see great vistas of town and Stari Most - The Old Bridge. Originally built by Turks in 1566, it was destroyed by Croats forces in civil war in 1993, rebuilt in 2004. Pieces of 500 year old bridge lie on the banks of Neretva river as a memorial. The serene and idyllic setting of old town Mostar hides many wounds of war and betrayal.
