Bali Behind the Curtain
Travelers can attend an hourlong shadow puppet show held three times a week in the small gallery at the Oka Kartini Bungalows. Entirely low tech and all the more charming for its humble intimacy, the show we attended was performed by a legendary Ubud puppeteer in his 80s. Sitting in the audience with the other tourists was fun, but the real show is around the corner where you can perch on a staircase and watch the puppeteers and musicians do their thing.
