The World's Most Expensive Chalet
What do you get when you stay in a chalet that costs about $370,000 a week? Truly anything you could possibly imagine. Chalet N sits in the tiny village of Oberlech, overlooking the slopes of Lech. Owned by Renee Benko, a wealthy young Austrian, the five-story, ski-in, ski-out chalet looks unassuming from the outside with its timber and stone facade. But step in the front door and you feel as if you've stepped into a James Bond film. One of two butlers (Wolfgang and Markus) will greet you and immediately offer your slippers and then hand you a glass of bubbly from the bar in the sitting room. The model-esque chalet manager Georg Gruber, will give you a tour of the ten suites (including a room for the nanny as well as a Never Never Land-like kids room with enormous wooden bunkbeds and any game or toy one could desire). Guests can entertain themselves in the cinema, at the in-house hairdresser, in the health club, or in the fabulous spa which features relaxation beds that gently rock side to side, and a rain shower enveloped in Swarovski crystals. Is it all a bit over the top? Yes, but not ostentatious and certainly worth every penny of the price tag.
