O Mylos tou Balabani
This old mill has operated as a taverna for as long as the locals can remember. The location is a dream: overlooking a fishing harbor and the sandy sweep of Molos Beach, the distant hilltop Chora of Skyros framed by misty mountains. The look is pure Greek beach shack: sky-blue tables, rag rugs tossed over brushed concrete benches, and a hand-painted menu. The menu is a roll call of classic Greek dishes, with the occasional twist: battered calamari, chickpea salad with caramelized onions, ladopitta (the deep-fried love-child of a pita bread and a doughnut) smothered in xynomizythra (tangy goat ricotta), and an excellent rendition of the local specialty, lobster spaghetti. There’s no lovelier place to be as the moon rises from the silver sea. (+30 22220 91378)
