For powder hounds and culture vulture alike
Nozawa Onsen is a traditional Japanese village in the Nagano prefecture. As its name suggests the town is set on natural mineral springs and that is why there are so many onsens there. These onsens are available for the visitors to use and it certainly eases sore muscles after a days skiing. The villagers run and own the ski fields and the powder is exceptional. Nozawa is so picture post card perfect with cobbled lanes, phenomenal food, and seriously nice local people. Not far away are the snow monkeys. Nozawa Onsen has yet to be over run by tourists, but it certainly starting to appear on a lot more people's radar and with very good reason. The town also holds one of the 3 largest fire festivals, the Dojosin Fire Festival, every year on the 15th January. This is seriously one for your bucket list.
