For Powder Hounds and Culture Vultures Alike
Nozawa Onsen is a traditional Japanese village in the Nagano prefecture. As its name suggests, the town is set on natural mineral springs and that is why there are so many onsen there. These are available for visitors to use and certainly ease sore muscles after a day's skiing. The villagers run and own the ski fields and the powder is exceptional. Nozawa Onsen is so picture postcard perfect and also has phenomenal food and seriously nice local people. And there are snow monkeys living not far away. Nozawa Onsen has yet to be over run by tourists, but it's certainly starting to appear on a lot more people's radars—and with very good reason. The town also holds one of the three largest fire festivals, the Dojosin Fire Festival, every year on January 15. This is seriously one for your bucket list.
