The Nordvegen History Center is located on Karmøy Island in Avaldsnes, just on the other side of the Karmsundet Strait from Haugesund. The contemporary building that houses the center sits next to a 14th-century stone church and is built right into boulders on a promontory. The museum displays artifacts, but its most popular attraction is a 15-minute walk away on wooded Bukkøy Island. The Viking Farm there has a longhouse with a graceful curving roof, and actors bring various aspects of Norse culture to life, from cooking techniques to combat.
