Perched above the idyllic Swiss town of Surlej, near the world-renowned St. Moritz ski resort, this four-star glass-and-timber sanctuary offers a seductive mix of friendly service and cool design. Founded by award-winning hotelier Puri Manvinder, the hotel is constructed from locally sourced materials such as wood and granite and—thanks to the swaths of glass—enjoys unobstructed views of the mountains.
The 70 earth-toned rooms and suites all feature floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, large balconies, and carefully chosen natural fabrics and materials from suede chairs to Italian stone tiles. The modern granite bathrooms all have a deep bath and waterfall shower and, in keeping with the eco-conscious design, the building is heated year-round by geothermal power. Hi-tech amenities include a flat-screen TV, iPod docking station, and free Wi-Fi. An on-site bistro serves drinks and snacks throughout the day, and a couple of very good restaurants provide lunch and dinner options. Bookworms will enjoy the library, and parents will adore the well-equipped Kids Club.

The hotel is directly connected to the Corvatsch cable car station, so skiers, snowboarders, and winter hikers can rapidly reach the highest mountain station in the eastern Alps. Other winter activities include sledding, ice skating, bobsledding, and even ice polo and hang gliding. In summer, the trails are full of hikers and bikers, and the lake is perfect for windsurfing, sailing, and canoeing. The nearby towns and villages also organize events year-round, from jazz, opera, and classical music concerts to clay pigeon shooting and the White Turf horse races.
