To me, coffee should be served simple and as unaltered as possible. If your drink has more ingredients than a dinner recipe, it's not coffee.
Ninth Street Espresso has a similar philosophy, and that's why they're my favorite cafe in Manhattan. The menu is less than ten items, and it's all coffee or espresso. No frills. No excess. Certainly no caramel.
There are three locations across Manhattan (with a fourth opening soon), but my favorite is the stand in Chelsea Market. Be warned, it's cash only.
