So one of my favorite past times in Cairo is to randomly take felucca rides in the middle of the night with friends, especially when our school is on strike and classes are canceled! I love how unplanned Cairo is. It will be 3am or so and we will be at our neighbors' house or visa versa, and my neighbors Egyptian boyfriend will suddenly announce that we should go on a felucca or ride camels or horses at the pyramids, and before you know, we are leaving the house on some ridiculous adventure, and that's a typical night in Cairo. Everyday life in Cairo is crazy and unpredictable enough without anything extra actually happening, but with friends like these life in Cairo is definitely never boring!
The Nile is so beautiful at night. The lights shine so beautifully in Zamalek. As we floated down the Nile we could hear "Gangnam style" being blasted from the elite Tamarai club with flashing pink colored lights. Tamarai is a posh club off of the Nile located on the rooftop of the Landmark hotel. The cover for this place is about 200 pounds, the equivalent of $33, a steep price for a place like Egypt no matter how posh or nice it is. As we heard Gangnam style we followed suit, using the boat's speakers to play it and do the famed dance with our Egyptian friends. No cover, no perverts, no smokey club---just friends having fun. You can't beat felucca rides! For less than $5 a person we have our own private felucca party on the Nile.
