Strolling Old Town Istanbul under the full moon enhances its beauty, mystery, and romantic atmosphere. After wandering around the captivating Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosque as the sun set, I rode the tram down to Galata Bridge and then crossed the street to the New Mosque and Spice Bazaar. As the moon appeared, the silvery light heightened the magic of the domes and minarets that rose above the square. Ancient prayers reverberating through the night added to the mystical feel. A smokey scent of roasting chestnuts from a nearby seller's cart reminded me the autumn evening chill was upon us. Across the square, I entered the Spice Bazaar, the activity and light and colors and exotic scents a stark contrast to the previous moment's reverie. But I had snapped my photo and something had clicked in my memory of the moon behind the mosque in an indigo sky.
