Inspired by New Hope Cambodia
Last summer I traveled with GEEO's Thailand/Laos/Cambodia teacher travel program. One of the first places we visited in Siem Reap
(Cambodia) was New Hope. New Hope is a non-profit organization that provides free education, and a medical clinic for locals and runs a training restaurant for young people. GEEO runs professional development programs for teachers, and so when we visited the New Hope's classrooms, my fellow teacher travelers taught the student English songs. Given the poverty and basic living conditions we had seen outside, we knew that the students at New Hope were very lucky and had hope for the future. We also ate at the New Hope training restaurant where they teach young people cooking and restaurant management to give skills for further employment. The food was some of the best we had during the program and so affordable.
