Sweet Day Trip from Rome
Nemi is the smallest village of the Castelli Romani--a collection of 16 enchanting villages on the outskirts of Rome. I visited in springtime, when the sweet smell of fragoline (wild strawberries) perfumed the air--the village is famous for these ruby red fruits that overflow from shops in the main via, top gelato, cakes, and custards. Fun to join in with the fashionable Romans, who drive out here on Sundays. Settle into at a caffe overlooking dreamy Lake Nemi, and enjoy fragoline daiquiri or fragoline granite--crushed-ice drinks.
