Nelson Lakes National Park

This is Where I Want to Stay
Warm fire, running water (that should be treated or boiled), toilets, tables, and benches: The Angelus Hut.

After a gloomy morning with two hours of straight up-hill climbing in the rain, followed by an hour in a trail-shack playing hearts with fellow travelers hoping to wait out the rain, and finally "mountain goating" over seriously rocky terrain for the remainder of the day, it was all worth it to end up here.

A place high in the sky, set on a lake, in a mountain valley that just makes you want to Stay. As we approached the hut from our steep descent, our legs began to feel weak, our stomachs began to growl, and when we arrived we happily enjoyed our cup-a-tea and homemade trail mix on the back deck as the sun went down.
