Negombo Beach

Negombo - Giriulla Rd, Negombo, Sri Lanka

Negombo, one of the closest beachside getaways from Colombo, was also one of the first places in Sri Lanka occupied by the Portuguese. Dutch settlers later improved its waterways to transport inland-grown spices like cinnamon to the port. The southern reaches of the beach are busy with anglers and lined with fish left to dry in the sun. Wander the canals and head further north along the shore for a quiet escape.
