Biblical History in a Modern Arab City
Nazareth is described in the New Testament as the childhood home of Jesus Chris, as well as the site where the angel Gabriel told Mary that she was to conceive a child through the power of the Holy Spirit. Thus, it's the location of the Church of the Annunciation. Nazareth, home to around a dozen significant Christian sites, is a center for religious pilgrimage, especially during the Christmas season. It is the largest Arab city in Israel, with a population of 75,000, predominantly Muslim and Christian. Nazareth combines modern culture with Middle Eastern charm and is well known for its Old City and traditional shuk (marketplace), as well as its authentic Arab cuisine.
