Biblical History in a Modern Arab CityNazareth is described in the New Testament as the childhood home of Jesus Chris, as well as the site where the angel Gabriel told Mary that she was to conceive a child through the power of the Holy Spirit. Thus, it's the location of the Church of the Annunciation. Nazareth, home to around a dozen significant Christian sites, is a center for religious pilgrimage, especially during the Christmas season. It is the largest Arab city in Israel, with a population of 75,000, predominantly Muslim and Christian. Nazareth combines modern culture with Middle Eastern charm and is well known for its Old City and traditional shuk (marketplace), as well as its authentic Arab cuisine.

Nazareth, The hometown where Jesus grew up.
The City of Nazareth, located in the Galilee, the Northern part of Israel, is the largest Israeli Arab city. It is one of the best known towns among Christians as it is where Jesus grew up. The city has more than twenty churches and the grandest of all is the monumental Basilica of the Annunciation, which is considered the largest church in the Middle East. You can spend a whole day walking from one church to another and discover the Church of St. Joseph, where in its basement there is a cavern reputed to what used to be the carpentry workshop of Joseph, and the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Gabriel, where you can find inside an old well which used to provide spring water to Nazareth 2000 years ago. For lunch, enjoy one of the authentic arab restaurants the city has to offer and afterwards enjoy Nazareth's market, where you can buy traditional sweets, embroidered clothes and souvenirs. The market kept its unique character from the 19th century which makes it an unforgettable experience.
