Horsing around with royalty at the Czech National Stud
Between 1579–1918, the royal stud—one of the oldest in the world— was an imperial court stud and provided horses for the royal and imperial court in Prague and Vienna. The Old Kladruber horses can still today be found in service at royal courts in Denmark and Sweden. In the Czech Republic they are seen at ceremonies at Prague castle and used by the mounted police in several cities.
While this so-called 'Baroque Horse' may not be as well known as Vienna's famous Lipizzaner, the Old Kladruber breed are no less treasured.
The guided tour takes visitors through the carriage house, harness room and stud history museum, as well as the stables and small castle, where the Austro-Hungarian royalty spent their time here.
