a DART (Dissappearing America Road Trip) brought us to Sunspot NM and the National Solar Observatory. The small town has the feel of an abandoned movie set from a 1950s sci-fi film. The several observatories can be visited as well as a quite nice little museum (where this photo of my travel buddy - seen through infrared photography- was taken) that gives the science and overview of the solar observatory. This place is definitely worth a detour through the forested mountain roads to visit.
