National Museum of Indonesia

Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat No.12, Gambir, Kota Jakarta Pusat, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta 10110, Indonesia

This museum at the base of the National Monument in Jakarta was built in 1862 and is considered the crown jewel of the country’s museums. The wealth of artifacts on display is staggering—everything from gold jewels from Central Java and Dayak puppets to relics that tell the story of the Ramayana and statues that date back a millennia. The new wing alone is devoted to mankind’s evolution in Indonesia. If you weren’t impressed by the country’s rich history yet, you will be now.
