Marine Parade, Napier 4110, New Zealand
National Aquarium of New ZealandWhat is considered the country's first aquarium began as an enterprise by local fishermen on the Marine Parade in 1956 and was expanded into the National Aquarium in 2002 with the construction of a NZ$8 million facility. Its showpiece is a 1.5-million-liter (400,000-gallon) oceanarium, which is stocked with species native to Hawke's Bay—1,500 fish in total. It measures 24 meters by 30 meters (79 feet by 98 feet) and has a 50-meter-long (164-foot-long) clear tunnel to maximize viewing.
