Nariz del Diablo: A guaranteed recipe formalist landscape views
The train ride from Riobamba to the Nariz del Diablo is a great opportunity to see some of Ecuador's less common topography. You pass by a lot of farmland, abandoned mines, cemeteries, marshes, tiny towns and irrigation channels before getting to the truly arid part near the end. In all, it was a very meditative experience riding the rhythm of the rails, watching the world go by. Seeing the surface of the opposite side of the valley gives great opportunities for capturing flat abstract images.
