One of the unexpected highlights of my trip to India was a visit to Mysore Palace. The palace is the official residence of the Wadiyars, the royal family of Mysore.
Touring the interior of the palace was like watching a seemingly endless parade of beautifully ornate rooms wander past you. Each one more beautiful that the last.
But on Sundays the crowds remains even after the opulent palace closes, patiently waiting for the crowd pleasing encore -- when the palace is illuminated by thousands of individual light bulbs. They start slowly at first, but soon the whole palace is a blaze. People standing mesmerized at the sight moving only to reposition their cameras.
