Uncharted, Tropical Myanmar? Yes it does exist and it’s called the Myeik Archipelago, a cluster of 800 idyllic islands straight out of a fairytale book of your dreams.
As the New York Times recently reported, this tropical archipelago -- which is also referred to as the Mergui Archipelago -- is a long ways from being developed. It’s still tightly controlled and lays claim to but a single resort that is closed for half the year.
But the islands are not completely off limits but they are hard to explore independently. ‘Liveaboard’ dive boats operating out of Phuket have scheduled trips to these islands but if you’re not into diving visiting this unchartered archipelago is no easy feat.
