A must-stop for fans of Brazil’s most famous writer, this canary-yellow house is where Amado lived with his parents while writing his debut novel, The Country of Carnival. Amado’s father built the neoclassical-style family home in 1928. Guided visits take in Amado’s writing room and dive a bit deeper into family heirlooms, photographs and other personal objects belonging to the author. The museum was dedicated in 1998, well before the novelist’s death in 2001, and is marked by a life-size bronze statue greeting visitors outside the entrance.
