Chile Before Chile: Pre-Colombian Art Museum
Recently opened after three years of extensive renovations, Santiago's "Museo Chileno de Arte Pre-Colombino" is one of South America's premier museums exhibiting the rich cultural history of Chile and Latin America. An extensive, well curated collection of pieces are shown in well-constructed rooms with art, sculptures, textiles, jewelry and artifacts. Opening in this renovation was the astounding "Chile Antes de Chile", or Chile Before Chile, room excavated below the museum. This room lays out the foundations of Chile's indigenous communities from the Aymara and Andean tribes in the north to the southern Mapuches, including an impressive display of chemamüll, wooden statues. There are audio and guided tours available in English.
