The Musée Rodin, renovated in 2015, was our favorite museum experience while in Paris. The audio guide provided a narrative of Rodin's life featuring work inspired by Dante, his friendship with Claude Monet, a heartbreak over a cancelled commission, and his complicated affair with a student, Camille Claudell (a French sculptor and graphic artist whose work you can find in a room dedicated solely to her in the museum). For a true portrait of a Paris: sit on the bench in front of Rodin's The Thinker statue and you'll see the The Dôme des Invalides, which contains Napoleon I's tomb, and The Eiffel Tower in the distance.
