Musée Paul Valéry

148 Rue François Desnoyer, 34200 Sète, France

Both the famed French poet Paul Valéry and the great singer/songwriter Georges Brassens were born in Sète and their names appear on cultural institutions here. Besides showcasing works of the poet, the recently renovated Musée Paul Valéry has paintings by Degas, Cézanne and Matisse and folk art by less famous residents of Sète. There is also a fine garden and views of the city and sea as well. Another aspect of French culture can be experienced at the audiovisual Espace Brassens (67 Boulevard Camille Blanc), a 10-minute drive away. The museum provides an introduction to the lyric-driven French music tradition of chanson.
