I know, I know - this museum displays a wide and amusing collection of outfits that have been showered on Mannenken Pis over the years. But that's a small part of an otherwise wonderful museum so - if you are like me and have never warmed to that little pisser - come in and see the other treasure. There are vibrant tapestries, absorbing paintings of Belgian landscapes and town life, wonderful ceramics, and statues that - if you look at them a beat too long - make you feel they are looking back at you.
I admit I often have a hard time going into museums when I travel, for the inside of a building can temporarily take away that sense of where you are (and have traveled so far to be). That won't happen with the Musée de La Ville de Bruxelles. This small museum will send you back out into La Grand Place with renewed appreciation of Brussels, wider Belgium, her arts, and where you are at this particular moment in time.
