Migunga Tented Camp - Manyara NP, Tanzania
5 Minutes outside of Manyara NP in Tanzania lies Migunga Tented Camp. We arrived after our first day on Safari in Manyara NP. After the awe of seeing herds of Elephants meandering close enough to touch from our Land Cruiser, Cattle Egrets picking insects off of Cape Buffalo, Hippo cooling in the waterhole, and baby Baboons hanging onto their mothers, we pulled into the Migunga Tented Camp. Our tents were scattered throughout the forest and the ever present sounds reminded us that "wild"-life was not far away. The open air dining hut was surreal as we ate fresh fruit, rice, stews and asorted side dishes. We sat around the outdoor firepit and listened to the sounds of the forest before turning in. In the morning we were greeted by Blue-Balled Monkeys (Yes they have bright blue balls), a large family of Striped Mongoose, and ever present sounds coming from deeper in the forest. This was a place one could stay, not because of the pampering, (it was quaint, but not luxurious), and not because of the views, (being surrounded by forest left more to the imagination than to the eyes), but the mystery, the wonder, the curiousness of a new place, and the beginnings of a trip just begun, brought a special feeling to this place where we stayed
