Mt. Huashan is an hour and a half out of Xi'an. It is a stunning holy mountain, and an escape from China's big cities. Most of the tourists there are Chinese; we saw few foreigners and we sure stood out as white females. We took the cable car up the mountain and hiked around for a couple of hours. Had we known there were hostels on top, we would've bought a night pack and stayed up there. With good fitness, you can skip the cable car and climb up. The mountain was just fantastic. Vendors sold locks and keys, and you can purchase one, engrave your name on it, and lock it to the many railings throughout the mountain.
