Touted as one of the best night views in the world, Mount Hakodate—locally, Hakodate-san—feels like the center of the world. Take the short cable car ride to the top of this dormant volcano and view a stunning contrast of city lights against a dark, glassy bay.
So claim the locals in Hakodate. And I cannot argue with that. Taking the short ride on the ropeway (cable car) up Mount Hakodate, we were greeted with an absolutely breathtaking view of the city. It was freezing when we were there, so we tried to take as much photos as we could during the brief period we managed to brave the cold. Looking at our photos later, we all had red noses!
