There are several ways to explore beautiful Mount Pelion, but if you can, the best option is to walk. This does not need to be a long hike (although plenty of superb ones exist); even a short wander in and around the traditional villages will be rewarded with hidden delights. In the 24 villages nestled among the forests of beech, oak, maple and chestnut on the mountain slopes, the houses are expertly built out of the local slate, which comes in various hues of gray, blue and green.
