When the famous Japanese chef Masaharu Morimoto opened a branch of his eponymous restaurant in downtown Napa it was definitely a game changer for the dining scene, bringing a bit of Vegas-style flash to wine country. To be safe, make a reservation in advance. The restaurant is always packed and buzzing. The chef's famous angry chicken is delicious, but the real reason to go is the super fresh sushi and sashimi. Splurge and order the omakase menu ($120 and up) and the chef will prepare what he thinks is freshest that day.

Being a New Zealander I had no idea who or what a Morimoto was until it was explained to me that he is a celebrity chef on a United States TV show. I know he probably didn't cook for me the night I ate at his eponymous restaurant... but I'd like to think he did. The food was devine - stunning in fact - delivered with charm, humour and wit by a lovely lady who could even put up with the weird requests of my Mexican Vegan friend. Me, I just like meat and was not disappointed.
