The land within this refuge is located along one of the most active flight lanes of migratory birds in the Atlantic Flyway region. Its grounds contain an extensive combination of wetlands and grasslands. Because of this, the primary focus is on providing a safe zone for waterfowl and migratory birds to rest, nest and feed. The center actively promotes resource management and conservation and encourages volunteers to participate in educational programs or to partake in projects.
The Visitor’s Center is open spring through fall. Winter weather closes the center and makes most of the roads within the refuge too icy for safe usage.
